Summer is Here!

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!

It’s finally summer in Northern Michigan, and if this weekend is any kind of preview of things to come, we’re looking at a beauty. We deserve it after the brutal winter we just survived. If you think that’s an overstatement, I can tell you that the last vestiges of snow in the woods just melted about three weeks ago.

We’re looking at doing a number of personal appearances this summer, including a couple with my good friend, Frank Holes. Frank is the novelist who has written quite a library of books inspired by the dogman. We will definitely be at the Irons Flea Roast and Ox Market on Saturday, June 27th, from about noon until 5pm, and at the National Cherry Festival Craft show in Traverse City (with Frank Holes)  on Sunday, July 5th. More dates will be announced in the future.

We’ll have copies of “The Legend Legacy Edition” on sale, along with dogman posters, and of course, Frank’s amazing books. If you already own the CD/DVD set or a poster, bring them with you and I’ll be happy to sign them.

Godspeed,

Steve

    Steve-
I’ve grown up with your legend. It’s a neccesity in any family camping event. I have both DVD’s, 20th Anniversary Collectors Edition/Legacy Edition, & have recently ordered the Haunting of Northwest MI. Basically, I’m a dogman freak. When the History Channel came out with thier version of “werewolves”, I was so disappointed because it mentioned michigan MAYBE twice. Linda Godfrey was featured. I heard rumor that you were interviewed but didn’t make the show!? Is there any truth to that? Wikepedia also talks mostly of Linda’s books. Did you get the idea from her, or was her book published first. Cuz, darn it, I think Michigan (and you of course) deserve more credit.

    Sincerely- a troubled fan

    Hi Sonja -
Thanks for the nice post. I jokingly say that I’ve scarred an entire generation of Michigan youth – and you’re one of them!
The History Channel “Monster Quest” show was created by a company in Minnesota called White Wolf Films, and they hired Linda Godfrey to write and direct the dogman episode. Linda and I have been good friends since the early 90s when she first began reporting on The Beast of Bray Road for the Elkhorn, WI newspaper. The Legend actually predates her first writings by about 5 years.
Linda’s original show concept was to highlight the cross-lake element, and I was interviewed by the History Channel in 2006. Unfortunately, Linda was stricken by a recurrence of cancer about halfway through production, and another writer/director took over. Her replacement thought the polygraph element was more intriguing, my interview was cut, and Michigan’s dogman was only mentioned in passing.
I have no hard feelings about it, I’m just happy Linda was able to fight off the cancer, and that the Dogman was featured on an international forum! The producers have said they may do a sequel episode in the years to come, one that focuses on Michigan’s dogman – if the ratings stay positive and the History Channel keeps renewing the show.
Thanks again for your message Sonja.
    Godspeed,
    Steve

Wow! Just goes to show where rumors get you… a bunch of b.s. I’m glad to know your happy with the outcome. I love your work and the things you do for charities. Also, I’m glad to hear of Linda’s success with “her fight”. My mother just recently beat breast cancer, so I’m very in sync with all who are fighting to beat it and for a cure. Thank you so much for the quick response, it cleared up a lot of questions my family & I had. We’ll be in the “north woods” camping in mid-july. Irons, to be exact, and you can bet we’ll be listening to & watching your songs & videos. Thank you for years of “scary fun”.

    Godspeed to you also,
    Sonja
